DESIGN PROCESS

my design process for free people

My design process is a constantly evolving process that always starts with a story or a trend.

My design process includes a mix of mocked up prototypes, CADs in Procreate or Photoshop, and sketches depending on what is right for the style. Every month I pull together a line of up to 20 styles. Typically I like to balance out the line by working into 2-3 different trends to be sure to cover all of the different silhouettes and fabrications.

You can really tell a story through wash and color. Every piece I design has a wash perspective of some sort — Whether it is a soft and subtle garment over-dye and softener wash, or a more bold wash, the wash really helps bring character into every piece. I love pulling inspiration from vintage pieces and working on developing wash formulas with out vendors that give the most authentic vintage wash possible.
